in New CaledoniaEmbracing ideal conditions
White sandy beaches, consistent winds, warm water temperatures throughout the year, shallow waters sheltered by the coral reef – New Caledonia offers all the prerequisites for board sports enthusiasts to explore countless playgrounds in a dreamlike setting. You can enjoy sailing on the world’s largest lagoon year-round, but the prime period is from November to March, when the trade winds are well-established, and temperatures hover between 25 and 30°C. No wetsuit needed here – all you require is a swimsuit and lycra for sun protection. Perfect your tan while gliding across the water in a postcard-worthy landscape.
Despite my lack of experience in Stand-Up Paddle, we all paddled out into the lagoon this morning. I couldn’t miss this chance to reach those beautiful translucent waters, and I ended up having a fantastic time.
Access unique, less travelled spots
In stark contrast to the overcrowded spots in Australia or Bali, New Caledonia offers the joy of surfing in tranquil settings, whether you prefer a solitary outing or a small group of friends. Access to the most secluded beaches and pristine wilderness locations can be arranged via water taxis. These days on the sea will let you engage with the locals, immerse yourself in board sports, and enjoy a truly authentic experience.
Swimming in turquoise waters
New Caledonia is a haven for riders with its consistent waves, and it’s equally enchanting for nature enthusiasts, boasting a UNESCO World Heritage lagoon and numerous protected marine reserves. Whether you’re near the islets or on the reef, the water is incredibly clear, making it perfect for switching between riding and swimming. You’ll easily spot the white sandy bottom beneath your board, so don’t forget your GoPro to capture some unforgettable moments
