Exploring Noumea with family

Nouméa is an ideal destination for children and adults alike. There are plenty of things to see and activities for the whole family. The climate is mild all year round and nature is omnipresent. Museums and parks? We’ve got ’em in spades, and they’re as diverse as your playlist on shuffle! The city is safe and the beaches quiet. It’s a fabulous playground for every age group! To make sure you make the most of your trip, we’ve lined up a dazzling selection of 12 family-friendly experiences in Nouméa.

Be inspired at the Amédée Lighthouse

The îlot Amédée, home to the famous lighthouse of the same name, is the jackpot for vacation vibes, just a breezy 40-minute boat jaunt from Nouméa. Lazy lounging, beach bonanzas, snorkelling adventures, a dose of Tahitian dance spectacle, a buffet lunch to tantalise your taste buds, and the pièce de résistance – a heart-pounding climb up the lighthouse stairs… An all inclusive day organised by Mary D lets you enjoy the attractions of this marine reserve without having to worry about planning it! Taxi-boats also provide crossings from Port Moselle.

Meet the animals

in parks and aquariums

Before meeting them in their natural environment, head to the Parc Zoologique et Forestier and the Aquarium des Lagons to see the emblematic animals of New Caledonia! Parc Michel Corbasson is home to many endemic species and offers family-friendly facilities (picnic tables, sanitary facilities, play area, feeding sequences). The Aquarium des Lagons is an excellent introduction to the aquatic environments of the Caledonian lagoon. Kids are in for a treat with special activities, like getting up close and personal with fish during feeding time. There’s even a touch tank where you can stroke starfish and shark eggs! An ideal visit before diving into the lagoon equipped with fins, mask and snorkel.

Marvel at the underwater trail

of Duck islet

Ditch the scuba gear and dive into a riot of colours without breaking a sweat! The developed Duck islet course lets you explore the underwater fauna by snorkelling, with just a pair of fins, a mask and a snorkel.

It’s a family-friendly affair (provided everyone knows how to swim)!

Family fun

From mind-bending escape games to heart-pounding laser tag and mini-golf, the city’s a playground for all ages. Rainy days? No worries! Enjoy your favourite movies at the cinema or make a splash at the water centre. Nouméa’s got the inside scoop on keeping the kiddos entertained. Get ready to unlock a world of laughter and adventure with some of the most entertaining leisure activities in town!

Share a fun moment on the water

In Nouméa, there’s something for everyone. The multiple orientations of Nouméa’s bays allow you to indulge in a variety of water sports, in turquoise, translucent and year-round warm lagoon waters. Feel the wind in your hair with sailboarding (windsurfing) at Anse-Vata, catch a thrill with towed dinghy action at Baie des Citrons, or paddle and kitesurf your heart out. And the best part? No need to worry about gear – shops offer rentals and introductory courses for all ages!

Relaxing on the beach

Bordered by a promenade that invites a leisurely stroll, the beaches of Anse-Vata and Baie des Citrons lend themselves equally well to idleness and water activities. Perfect for a picnic or simply relaxing, the many ice-cream shops and cafés that surround them make for a pleasant family afternoon!

Following in the footsteps of the navigators

The Maritime Museum of New Caledonia is an exciting human-sized museum showcasing exceptional items from maritime expeditions. A collection of nearly 2,000 objects, mainly from New Caledonian shipwrecks and the site of the naufrage de La Pérouse, grants visitors the opportunity to learn of New Caledonia’s maritime history. Playful and educational panels at child height will keep the little ones amused too!

Taste market produce

At Port Moselle, the municipal market comes alive Tuesday to Sunday from 5am. On the colourful stalls, you’ll find a fresh array of fruits and vegetables typical of the region. Both kiddos and grown-ups will be delighted to sample the exotic flavours of mangoes, apple-lianas, lychees, or dragon fruit!

Riding your mountain bike

at Boucles de Tina

The Tina Loops offer 7.5 km of developed bike and mountain bike trails awaiting riders of all levels. The park is open to the public every day. You can rent mountain bikes and electric-assist mountain bikes directly on site. Tucked smack in the middle of town and a breeze to reach, Les Boucles de Tina take you on a journey through the heart of the dry forest, boasting a whopping 379 plant species (more than half, endemic), and along the mangrove swamp. Here’s a great opportunity to do some sport with the family!

Soaring high in the heart of nature

Take to the heights with accrobranche and soar tyrolienne over the canopy! These are two outdoor activities that will appeal to children, teenagers and adults alike.

Just a few kilometres from Nouméa, in Dumbéa and Païta, you’ll find yourself surrounded by trees, in a magnificent natural setting.

Picnic at Ouen-Toro

A veritable green lung within Nouméa, the Ouen Toro is made up of winding paths for leisurely strolls or power-packed runs, and vast plains where you can kick back and picnic on the green carpet. Children can unleash their boundless energy, play ball or venture into the dry forest. At sunset, the park basks in a golden glow with a breathtaking, panoramic view over the lagoon and bays of South Nouméa.

Take advantage of our water sports facilities

of Dumbéa

In Dumbéa, two water sport bases await you in the middle of a verdant natural park bordering a pretty river. Located on either side of the main road, the Parc Fayard and Plaine des Cocotiers bases can be reached in less than half an hour from Nouméa. Families come here for a merry picnic, and a kayak or stand-up paddle outing on the Dumbéa river. Aventure Pulsion offers on-site supervised excursions or self-guided equipment rental.
