A “last one standing” ultra format: run a 6.706 km loop every hour, on the hour, finishing within 60 minutes each time. Use the remaining time to recover and refuel — keep going until only one runner remains.
The Backyard, organised by Défi Running, is a one-of-a-kind endurance run that blends strategy, consistency and mental grit. Runners must complete a 6.706 km loop every hour, on the hour. To stay in the race, each loop has to be finished within 60 minutes, and competitors must be back in the starting corral ready to go when the next hour starts. Any time left in the hour is used to recover, refuel and reset before heading out again.
The event continues until only one runner remains able to complete one more loop. That’s the Backyard principle: everyone can chase their own goal — whether it’s a handful of laps or a very long day out — right up until they’re eliminated.
