Tribu de Petit Borendy, 98829 Thio
Get away from it all at this Thio campsite bordered by a long black sand beach at the edge of the Forgotten Coast park!
Set between Thio and Yaté, Camping de N’goï marks the beginning of the Forgotten Coast. Its location in Petit Borendy is only accessible in a 4x4 or boat (permission required). The site is run by jovial Granny Georgette and her family. It is planted with beautiful coconut palms and can accommodate 100 tents. Facilities include an ablutions block with shower, a large “faré”, a water point and several fire pits. Georgette can make you some wonderful local seafood specialities if ordered in advance, as well as a mangrove fruit cake. You can also book activities such as hiking, fishing, a botanical discovery tour and an introduction to weaving and dyeing.

With the peaks of Mount Humboldt, flowing rivers and rugged coastline as a backdrop, Camping N’goï’s natural setting is simply stunning. From the campsite you can see Kakoué mountain to the south and, on the horizon, the peaks denoting Yaté Pass and leading to the Unia tribe. To the north are the tribes of Petit Borendy and Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and in the distance you can see the mountain on Tupeti Island. Traces and ruins of the former mine that operated in the 1960s are still visible.
