The dry forest of the Deva domaine is the largest dry forest area in New Caledonia and is home to exceptional plant and animal biodiversity.
The West Coast was once largely covered by dry forest, also known as sclerophyll forest, which has the characteristic of developing in a dry climate. What remains of it today is however greatly threatened by various anthropogenic activities. It is for this reason that the 1700 hectares of dry forest of the Deva domain are part of a protected natural area, in order to avoid the disappearance of this unique ecosystem. The dry forest of Deva is rich in biodiversity and located in the heart of the domain. There are 38 bird species and 72 plant species, many of which are endemic to New Caledonia.
