Situation in New Caledonia

Situation in New Caledonia

On 13 May, discussions on changes to electoral conditions in New Caledonia gave rise to major protests and unrest among the local population.

However, apart from its internal dissensions, travellers have never been singled out and the main tourist areas have not been directly affected by the incidents. Our destination, rich in history, with stunning nature and vast lagoon, continues to offer a unique and memorable experience.

Currently, a curfew from 10 PM to 5 AM and a temporary ban on the retail sale of alcohol are in place across New Caledonia to help maintain order.

Some localised disturbances may still occur in few areas (the Great South Road is blocked at the St Louis tribe), but traffic is strongly improving with the removal of most roadblocks. The road between Nouméa and La Tontouta International Airport is clear, and our airlines and ferry services are steadily restoring their domestic and international routes.

As the archipelago gradually returns to normal with the reopening of transport, shops, and services, the tourism sector is adapting to the challenging economic situation amplified by a temporary drop in visitor numbers. Many businesses are relying on public aid measures to navigate this period.

To ensure the best possible experience, we recommend postponing trips for the next two months. However, bookings for later dates should be maintained.
